Work Packages
We will achieve our aims via the following five interrelated and iterative work packages (WPs). Our work packages (WPs) are led by experts in diverse disciplines spanning the social and natural sciences but are also informed and guided by local NGOs and stakeholders, including rural communities. This approach ensures that each WP, and the entire project, is transdisciplinary with practical application outcomes.
WP1 — Scoping analysis
We conducted a mapping, scoping, and gap analysis of existing wilding efforts and gradients in the case study area.
WP2 — Scenario building
We are iteratively co-creating alternative future wilding scenarios and the pathways that lead to these scenarios. This work package is closely tied to WPs 3 and 4, as we integrate indigenous and scientific knowledge, analysing trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity and livelihood values.
WP3 — Indigenous knowledge
We are measuring biodiversity and livelihood values along existing wilding gradients and diverse land tenure systems through indigenous knowledge approaches.
WP4 — Scientific knowledge
We are measuring biodiversity and livelihood values along existing wilding and land tenure contrasts through scientific methods and participatory monitoring approaches.
WP5 — Knowledge use and outreach
We will use the knowledge gained in WPs 2, 3 & 4 to generate local impact and upscale our African-centred nature-based solutions via local and transnational outreach activities.
Work package 1 was completed in the first few months of the project. We are currently engaged in WPs 2, 3 & 4.
